The UK's first complete ground rocket test in 50 years takes place in Scotland
First time that a team has built a mobile launch complex and successfully live tested a complete rocket vehicle within five days. Edinburgh, Scotland, 20 May 2020 – The UK’s Space race heats up as Skyrora effectively made the UK ready for launching rockets into space after a team successfully built a mobile launch complex and completed a full static fire test with the Skylark L rocket on it – in only five days.
Hattrick for rocket company after first ever launch from Shetland soil
UK’s space race is heating up following a milestone suborbital rocket launch – the first of its kind ever to take Edinburgh-based Skyrora successfully launched its Skylark Nano rocket from remote land, the Fethaland Peninsula at North Roe on the Scottish island on Saturday, the 13th of June.

Imperative milestones are continuously being met, having established an engine test complex in Scotland, launched our Skylark Micro vehicle from Icelandic soil for the first time, and received an esteemed environmental award in recognition for our environmental efforts, all the while continuing our work within the STEM community. The opening of our engine test complex represents a giant leap forward for the UK’s ambitions as a space nation and Scotland’s status as a space hub.
Skyrora welcomes Rt Hon. Lord Willetts as a Senior Advisor
Rt Hon Lord Willetts, former UK Minister for Science and Universities, has agreed to join Skyrora in the role of Senior Consultant. Volodymyr Levykin, CEO Skyrora said: "I'm delighted that Lord Willetts has accepted our offer to join Skyrora in this capacity.
UK and NASA sign the Artemis Accords
Among other parties, NASA and the UK Space Agency have signed a historic agreement concerning the principles for space exploration, commercial activities, and scientific operations ahead of a proposed mission involving travel to the Moon.
